If 2020 Democrats Were 2016 Republicans

Last week, my friend Ken Minster posted these re-imagined candidate logos that (I think) hit the nail pretty well on the head.

Pete Buttigieg as Marco Rubio
Pete Buttigieg as Marco Rubio
Pete Buttigieg as Marco Rubio
Bernie Sanders as Donald Trump
Pete Buttigieg as Marco Rubio
Elizabeth Warren as Ted Cruz
Pete Buttigieg as Marco Rubio
Amy Klobuchar as Jeb Bush

Watching this week’s Democratic debate, I couldn’t help but think that their primary process is playing out just like the 2016 Republican Primary — with a frontrunner unable to secure an actual majority of support and a range of second-tier challengers who refuse to consolidate behind an alternative.

If you look at the election through that lens, these 1:1 comparisons seem perhaps too on-the-nose.
