Laying the groundwork for a national digital & field organizing effort

In 2014–2015, we partnered with Citizens for Self-Governance to migrate their Convention of States Project to NationBuilder from their existing custom built, self-hosted solution. The primary challenge was to combine their existing website and their “Action Center” into a single, cohesive website, train their field team on how to get the most out of NationBuilder’s powerful field toolkit, and help them through the initial transition period between the platforms.

While maintaining their existing visual style, we designed & developed two powerful NationBuilder themes — one for The Convention of States Project and another “sister theme” for Convention of States Action. These sites are powerful tools for data collection and grassroots mobilization, and feature rich with logged-in user functionality like a personalized supporter dashboard.

Lastly, we helped them develop database workflows to manage their rapidly growing national grassroots community. We trained and on-boarded more than one-hundred Control Panel (i.e., back-end database) users — a number which has now grown to more than 1,600 — and lay the groundwork for a national field campaign. The result has been a grassroots organization and activist base that rivals (if not surpasses) most presidential campaigns.
