Ian Patrick Hines

If you’d told me years ago that I’d end up here, I probably would’ve laughed (and then asked you for directions).

Less than six months after my third kid was born, I got fired from an a16z-backed startup. So, naturally, I did what any reasonable person would do: I went to the Apple Store, bought a MacBook, and launched a website.

That was over a decade ago. Since then, I’ve somehow managed to build three businesses, send more than a billion emails (yes, really), and help raise millions of dollars online.

I work hard—because, as it turns out, hard work actually works. Who knew?

Principal at Hines Digital
Remote
Hines Digital is my personal HQ for launching and collecting businesses—some planned, some happy accidents. It’s where I get to experiment, build, and occasionally surprise myself.
2025 - Present
Remote
I started DoNotContact.net to help people take control of their inboxes and opt out of political messages they don’t want. I also help campaigns clean up their lists—because good communication starts with respect (and nobody likes spam).
2024 - Present

At Conduit Street, I help political committees raise money online with email and text. Since 2024, we’ve raised over $2.5 million—by making sure the right messages reach the right people. It’s a core business, and I’m proud that our work is both effective and respectful. (And yes, my inbox is still always full.)

MD5 Data is my answer to the question: ‘How do we get political data right?’ Turns out, it’s a lot of work—but I like a good puzzle.
2013 - Present
Freelance
Remote
Freelancing took me to ten countries and put me in the room for some wild campaigns. I’ve helped elect national leaders (like the UK Prime Minister), and helped Pierre Poilievre become leader of the Canadian Conservatives. My clients? National parties in the UK, Canada, New Zealand, Malta, Australia, and more. Not bad for a guy with a laptop and a sense of humor.
2010
Master of Public Administration
University of Baltimore
I dove into budgeting, stats, and the mysteries of government and non-profits. Spoiler: it’s mostly about people (and paperwork).
2004 - 2007
Bachelor of Arts in Political Science
McDaniel College
Graduated in three years, fueled by coffee and a love for constitutional law. I still have opinions about state & local government.
Ongoing
I built this resume template because most online resumes are either too much or not enough. This one? Just right. (And you’re looking at it.)
2013
Certified NationBuilder Architect
NationBuilder
I got certified to build custom NationBuilder sites. Basically, I can make their platform do backflips.
2013
Certified NationBuilder Expert
NationBuilder
This one means I can help with the day-to-day stuff, too. (And yes, I’ve answered more support tickets than I can count.)
